Usually, 220V receptacles are usually required for high-power appliances such as electric water heaters, fridges, and furnaces. It connects to a panel from a 220V circuit breaker to gauge the flow of current. Two heavier cables connect with hot wires, the neutral and grounded.
Sometimes we need 110 volts for less power appliances such as for the lights. We need to wire 110 off of 220 volts circuit. It is not a tough job; it only requires simple skills to wire 110 off 220 volts.
Today I will share a simple technique that will help you wire 110V off of 220 Volts to meet your appliances requirement.
What Are the Ways to Wire 110 off of 220V?
The two most common methods to wire 110 V off of 220V are to use an adapter, and the second is to rewire the receptacle or install the new receptacle with the old one and then connect it with 220-volt wiring.
No matter which option you choose, you will need to install a new circuit breaker, but keep in mind 220V circuit breaker has more capacity to pass current than a 110V circuit.
The first method is quite easy, and you can connect the adapter to convert 220V into 110V, but here I will explain to you the second method that is rewiring. It is a reliable and permanent solution once you have properly installed it.
How to Wire 110V off of a 220V Circuit?
Please read all the below guidelines carefully and try to apply them strictly because your carelessness can harm your appliances and yourself too.
Step One
First of all, arrange all the required materials and tools. Materials you will need the new circuit breaker, wire and some helpful material to get in circuit breaker packing. You should take multiple electric wiring tools and some safety gear. You should wear plastic gloves, a plastic boot, and thick clothes.
Step Two
After arranging all the required materials, tools and safety gear, you can start your work. But before starting the work off the wiring circuit breaker, it is more beneficial if you off the main panel breaker. But you will need some light for smooth working so arrange some source of light such as torchlight etc.
But keep in mind when you have the panel breaker, but still, its bus bars have the power that can harm you. You should work carefully. If you do not feel comfortable with wiring, it is also good to hire a professional electrician.

Step Three
Start with the replacement of the old receptacle with a new one. With a screwdriver or range, unscrew the receptacle from the box and then disconnect all the wires from the receptacle.
Usually, 220V wire specified by its wires’ colors, red and black wires are the hot conductor and very risky, but the white wire knows for neutral and sometimes green wire also for grounding.
But here, you need only one hot conductor wire; you can screw the cap onto the red wire and then push the red hot conductor wire back in the box.
Step Four
In the next step, check the gauge wires; if you have 10- gauge wires, then you have the option to connect new 110V to 15 or 20 amp receptacles. Now attach the black wire to the brass terminal screws and then connect the white wire to the nearest chrome screw and connect the green wire to the ground and screw it.
If you face difficulty making connections due to too heavy wires, it is the best option to run the new 12 gauge wire and two conductor cables. It will make your job easier when installing a new electrical box with the older electric box.
Now splice the ground wire, white wire and black wire and screw wire cap onto each one, and hook it up with a new receptacle in the new electrical box.
Step Five
After completing the new receptacle installing job, return to the main panel and pull out the main circuit controlling breaker. After pulling out the main breaker, disconnect all the existing wires, but be careful, immediately cap the red wire, and safely enter it back into the panel.
Then connect the white wire and ground wire with neutral bus and ground bus, respectively. In the end, you will need to connect the remaining black wire to the single-pole breaker with its capacity of 15 or 20 amp.
Push it into the remaining slot on the double-pole breaker, and then install a cover plate over the free slot. It is done, and you can now turn on the breakers and use the receptacle for 110V.
Final Thoughts:
Two hundred twenty (220V) volts current is suitable for high energy appliances, but when you need less power appliances, such as for 110V, it is not safe to use them on 220V. You can wire 110 V from 220V and can meet your need. We have shared a simple way that will help you to do that job easily and safely.
